The Timorese constitutional Government led by Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao has planned to purchase MP7 type weapons for the Timorese Defense Force (F-FDTL), as the weapons are being out of date and is not good for operations. State Secretary for Defense, Julio Thomas Pinto said the F-FDTL’s weapons were being out of date to be used for its operations and was not in good conditions if compared with other military force’s weapons. Therefore, the Government through the State Secretariat for Defense to purchase weapons, so that the F-FDTL could respond to technological situation of war in the world, Pinto said. He added that during the joint training with the US Army, the F-FDTL’s weapons were longer and such condition impeded them not to move freely.

In yesterday newspapers there were reports from F-FDTL defence force that they intend to purchase weapons in order to upgrade so they can train more with the USA and others. In 2009 the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit was in Timor trainning with the Timorese defence force.
What were they training with?
This give some ideas as to what F-FDTL may be wanting to buy. A F-FDTL realmente precisa de mais armas? Parece que poderia ser um problema, mas eles podem obter algumas armas depois de os barcos.
